Usage Analytics and Feature Adoption

Track feature usage and adoption to understand customer behavior and improve products.

Why Usage Analytics Matter

Usage data shows how customers actually use your product: which features they use, how often, and in what order. That drives product decisions, onboarding improvements, and expansion (e.g. users who hit limits or use premium features are upsell candidates).

What to Track

Track events (e.g. “feature X used”, “report exported”) and aggregate to user- or account-level metrics: events per user, adoption rate per feature (% of active users who used it), and time-to-first-use for key features. Segment by plan, cohort, or segment to see differences.

Feature Adoption

Feature adoption is the share of users (or accounts) that have used a feature at least once in a period. Low adoption of core features suggests onboarding or discoverability issues; high adoption of expansion-related features can guide packaging and upsell. Track adoption over time and by cohort.

From Insights to Action

Use adoption and usage trends to prioritize product and onboarding changes, target in-app guidance, and identify accounts ready for expansion. Combine usage with billing and support in a 360° or health score for a full picture.
