FAQ Schema for Featured Snippets
How to use FAQ schema markup to appear in featured snippets and answer boxes.
What is FAQ Schema?
FAQPage schema marks up questions and answers on your page so search engines and AI can show them as rich results (e.g. expandable FAQ in Google) or use them as direct answers. Each entry has a Question and acceptedAnswer (with text).
Why Use It?
FAQ schema can earn you featured snippets and answer boxes in SERPs, increasing visibility. For AEO, it gives AI clear Q&A pairs to cite. The visible FAQ on the page and the markup should match; don’t add hidden FAQ schema for questions not on the page.
Implementation
Add a FAQPage JSON-LD block with mainEntity as an array of Question items. Each has name (the question) and acceptedAnswer → @type: Answer, text (the answer). Keep answers concise and factual. Validate with Google’s Rich Results Test.
Best Practices
Only include real FAQs that appear on the page. Use natural question phrasing. Keep answers focused; long paragraphs are harder to surface. Update when content changes. One FAQ block per page is typical; you can combine with Article or other schema on the same page.
